How can I configure Exchange to support the added
features of the Outlook Business Contact Manager that
comes with SB Office 2003?

Its my understanding the Outlook Business Contact Manager is *not*
compatible with Exchange (although, unfortunately, I don't have a link to
reference).

Why? Microsoft has other more robust (and expensive) products for servers
that fill the same need.....Outlook Business contact manager was designed as
a single computer solution.

I also had the same problem with SBS2003 - the patch did
not fix this problem - is there anything else to do or is
the software unusable (which is a shame cause when it
works it is great)?

Hi Jeff,

There is an MS patch to enable BCM within an SBS hosted exchange
setting here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=831747 there is also a
registry hack if your exchange is not on SBS. I haven't yet got round
to trying so could you let me know if they work?

Yes, they work, except all your "business contacts" get stored on the
desktop PC in a MSDE DB accessible by only that 1 user while they're running
outlook.

I did, but you shouldn't need to according to the KB. I found that by
not using the extra hack you had to create a new profile so i added
the hack at http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/bcm.htm and all worked
fine. I then set about trying to share the database files by putting
them on the SBS box and linking back to the original location, but BCM
craps out. Really BCM has been crippled by MS on many levels, i run a
small business of two people on an SBS machine, BCM is designed for
small operations such as mine as it says in the MS blurb, but what is
the point of a CRM you cannot share?

Thnaks I agree - I am a business of one and i cant get
the damn thing to work. I created a new profile after the
update - still no joy. I checked the hack page
instructions, and I dont have the same registry entry for
smallbusiness server, I have an entry that is
businesscontacteCRM! Go figure.

I cant even find an official channel to pay as the
software was preinstalled on my machine and the vendor is
over their head and MS refuse to even let me request
online help.

Besides Outlook, I think http://cardfila.com - online business card manager is also good choice for you. Especially its newest app: CF 2.0 helps me to easily search card photos without internet connection.
