Hi,
I have just installed SBS 2003. I read somewhere along the
way that I can't install regular antivirus software, but
have to install antivirus software that is compatible with
Exchange.

I don't use Exchange to handle our external e-mail (we
have our e-mail hosted at an ISP). It is used just for
internal e-mail and server alerts and monitoring. Does
this make a difference in what kind of antivirus software
I have to install.

Also, I'm wondering what the relationship is between
antivirus software installed on the server and on
antivirus software installed on the clients. Everywhere I
look for this stuff, I have to buy 5, 10, or 15 licenses.
Does this mean I get a server app. and then a couple
licenses to put on clients that interact with it? Can I
still use our regular Norton Antivirus 2004 on the
clients? This stuff is kind of expensive.

If anyone can clear some of these issues up for me, that
would be great! Also, any suggestions on good software out
there and where I can get it cheap would be really cool.

Thanks a lot,
Tim

Not exactly true - you can, and should, use both Exchange-aware and
file-level AV on your server - the caveat is, you must make sure to exclude
the appropriate folders from file-level scanning or you'll eventually see
Bad Things happening. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328841 for info on
that.

One option I like is Trend Micro's client/server/messaging suite - works
quite well. Includes Scanmail for Exchange & Officescan for
workstations/server.

Not really - you're still storing mail in your mailboxes & it should be
scanned by Exchange-aware AV software. My question is, why keep your POP
mail at all when you have a perfectly good mail server in house already? You
can host your domain's mail directly on the Exchange server - much faster,
more reliable, and a lot easier to adminster if all mail comes in/goes out
through a single point. Plus, then you can use cool things like OWA and
OOO....

Depends what you choose - whatever it is, you need the corporate edition so
you can manage all workstation AV from the server.

Cheap - well, how expensive would it be for your company's server/network to
be down for days due to a bad virus infestation? Don't skimp on things like
this (nor on firewalls, UPS, tape backup) - in my view, it's worth doing
things right, from the beginning, to avoid future problems. Check pricing on
the Trend suite I mentioned above, scalable to your network/user base size.

The fast all in one protection not only is easy to operate, but also will not reduce the speed of your computer and occupy the RAM. Norton 360 will speed up the computer so that the user can work quickly. Norton 360 will delete unnecessary interruption to release more space for important papers. All these installation can be done in only one minute.
