Hi there

I am trying to update some of my client workstations to update the group
policy using gpupdate /force. On some workstations this works within a
minute, gpo are applied, on other it never seems to work since gpupdate does
not end. I have to close it myself sometimes even after 1 hour The
workstations ar all in the same OU.

Check your event logs and rsop.msc output to see what's what.

Hi Lanwench,

No errors in the eventviewer on both DC and workstations.

When I tried to use Group Policy Results Wizard from Server Management Tool
on some workstations I get Acces denied / Permission Denied (not only on
those where gpupdate /force takes ages) .. these gpupdate and rsop are really
bugging me.

I have compared both the rsop.msc (remote desktop logged as
domainadministrator) .. no errors. I even tried gpresult.exe (to a txt file).
The outcome on the working and non working workstations were the same,
although the order was slightly different. The time the group policy was
applied was for both today. I am really running out of options here.

That won't be relevant here - it's a permissions issue (your logged in
account doesn't have rights, apparently). You don't need to use that on
workstations. Use GPMC/etc on your server, not workstations.

Hmmm. Try a dnsdiag (XP support tools) on the workstations.

Honestly I am giving up, because the setup from the beginning was not based
upon those miracle wizards but on my own inexperience.

I have run virtual sbs 2003 with 4 XpSp2 virtual machines in a VMWare
environment the past week and using the wizard everything works just fine.

No gpupdate waits, no 'rsop' and 'offer remote assistance' access denied.

Thanks for the help.

To be sufficient
dnsdiag output was the same on all the working and concerning workstations.

Lanwench ... thanks for the effort and time.
