I am running Windows 2000 Server w/ Small Business Server.

The MS Shared Fax Service has stopped sending and receiving faxes. I
have tried rebooting the server but this had made no difference.

On investigating, I could see (in Administrative Tools / Services)
that the Fax Service (configured to start automatically) had stopped.
I tried to restart it but received the error as follows:

"Could not start the Fax Service on Local Computer. The service did
not return an error. This could be internal windows error or an
internal service error. If the problem persists, contact your system
administrator."

After a few attempts, the Fax Service did restart and 1 fax was sent
successfully however, the Fax Service stopped itself again in less
than 1 minute. If I restart it again, it stops again, so I restart it,
and it stops again, I restart it again....and so on. This continues to
happen now and I'm not sure where to begin to troubleshoot.

For additional info, if I try to restart the Fax Service through the
SBS Administrator Console, the service just disappears altogether
until I re-open the console (and it is still stopped).

There is nothing in the Event Logs with regard to the starting or
stopping of the Fax Service.

Any help, tips and / or advice would be greatly appreciated. I will
provide as much extra information as required to anyone who may be
able to help. I am a beginner at this sort of thing!

Mny thanks in advance for your help.

It is almost impossible to tell something without any error message
provided...

Please go to Fax Service Manager, right-click your fax - named "Fax (local)"
by default - select Properties, and go to the Event Reports tab.
Are all levels are set to High?
If not - set them to High and post error messages from the event log here.

Hope this helps,

Many thanks for your response.

I've checked that and all levels are already set to high yet there is
still nothing appearing in the event logs.
