I have been getting a lot of w32time errors saying it
can't update the time. I have set the
w32time /setsntp:time-a.nist.gov as the time server (as
well as lots of others, and still get this error. I have
tried using the:

NET STOP W32TIME
W32TM /RESYNC
NET START W32TIME

producure and I get an error of:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>w32tm /resync
Sending resync command to local computer...
The following error occurred: The interface is unknown.
(0x800706B5)

C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator>w32tm /resync /rediscover
Sending resync command to local computer...
The following error occurred: The interface is unknown.
(0x800706B5)

Also of note, I cannot ping out to any address on the
internet. I am able to surf properly and to receive email
as expected. These two services are the ones that are
giving me fits right now.

PLEASE any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you refer to a SBS2003 server box.
Make sure that port 123 is open to UDP traffic to/from the
time source you want to syncronize with.
In the registry (HKEY Local Machine\System\Current Control
Set\Services\W32time\Parameters) you have the TYPE set to
NTP.

I believe this is all I had to do when I first set it up.
Make sure that you restart the service if you make any
changes in the registry. I am not familiar with the
procedure you outlined, I just use the Services console to
restart the service.

Hope this helps.

Yes,

I am referring to my SBS box.

Where do I open port 123? It was working, I then
installed ISA 2000 and several things stopped working, I
didn't have the knowledge to to configure it properly...so
I uninstalled it, and I have been getting these errors
ever since. I am not sure where to open the port is the
crux of the questions, also I am unable to ping from any
station on my SBS network.

did you rerun CEICW either after installing ISA or uninstalling it? In
CEICW, when selecting type of broadband connection you have, one of the
options will disable time services by default, and you need to go back in to
Services and restart it.

I have rerun the CECIW several times. Some times
disabling the basic firewall, others fully enabling it
(currently enabled). But it never makes a difference on
the ping-ability or ability to communicate with an
external time server over port 123

w32tm /resync needs the w32time service to be running. This is
different than the windows 2000 w32tm, where the service had to be
stopped.

And, if the SBS has ISA installed, you need a packet filter in ISA to
allow NTP out, which would be Allow/UDP/123/Send Receive.

Please see one of my other posts regarding the fact that
ISA was not installed, everything worked. I installed ISA
many things stopped working, I did not have the time to
prperly learn the config and use of ISA...so I uninstalled
it, re-ran the ICIEW several times trying to get access
back...I got everything to work except ping and NTP. I
have ran it with both the basic firewall enabled and
disabled, still nothing.
