Hello all,

I have a customer looking to monitor the internet activity for all users.
What they want is to be able to see screen captures of the sites that they
are visiting.

They want a software that is transparent to the users

Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions?

They currently have about 20 users and they will be growing.

The Owner says that they want to review it, but you know that will only last
a few weeks.

There is software that will monitor key strokes and screen shots, but it
is quite cumbersome and not very user friendly, from what I've heard.
Additionally monitoring that activity for 20 users would be quite time
consuming.
I suggest investigating our software service called Covenant Eyes.
www.covenanteyes.com. The program provides for Internet Accountability
by monitoring every website visit the user goes to, we score the
websites for possible objectionable content, and email a report to
selected Accountability partners. It is client side and with more and
more companies using laptops they would be able to hold staff
accountable when they were at home or on the road. We have many small
businesses and organizations with 5-150 users using the program. It's
best to tell the employee that his/her Internet will be monitored as a
part of putting together a complete employee Internet safety use
policy. This policy is communicated to each employee outlining what the
company expects from employees using the Internet. When the employee
knows they will be monitored they will act and behave differently, for
good reason. If they have been abusing the Internet at work, this gives
them a chance to clean up their surfing habits. If they don't then
management will know and according the the Internet policy, take the
necessary next steps.

Covenant Eyes can be installed and configured so that the user does not
know they are being monitored, however, the strength of accountability
is that the person using the Internet KNOWS they will be held
accountable. Nobody likes to be spied on and if your employees find out
about this they will most likely be angry and you will lose whatever
trust factor you had. We don't recommend using it this way as this is
more akin to spying and that is what we are NOT about. Personal
accountability for the staff allows the employee to change or not
change. The program cannot be uninstalled without obtaining a uninstall
code, and this activity shows up on the report and is emailed to the
Accountability partner(s). The program works well with most smaller
networks and if any problems arise our customer support staff can solve
most of them. The program for 20 users would be $3.99/mo per user or
about $80/mo. The increased productivity for the company (Your return)
from this program will be way more than $80/mo. We store all web
activity on our servers so it cannot be erased. We also monitors Google
searches and records amount of time spent on the web by viewing the
detailed browsing log report. Reports can be emailed to the managers or
viewed 24/7 from our website's member center anywhere in the world. Also
compatible with Mac 10.4 or higher. For more information email:
***@covenanteyes.com or visit: www.covenanteyes.com by phone:
877-479-1119 opt 4.

Hi KB:

This falls under the heading of "I have to try that one of these days."

But 'cause none of my customers are as interested as yours is, I have not
gotten "a round tutit".

And others here may know that this is a false trail.

Does the customer have SBS Premium and is ISA installed?

If not, and depending upon the cost of third party products you may want to
consider upgrading to Premium.

And then this article:

http://www.isaserver.org/tutorials/userinfo.html

Which appears to offer the settings to log the sites visited by users using
ISA 2004.

There is also a ISA 2000 version of this.

My recommendation for you, based on my own experience, is to sign up for 'M
Team Monitor' at www.myteammonitor.com which is a software that takes and let
you monitor: screenshots of your employees' computer screens, records of th
number of keystrokes and clicks they make, and also the times they were idle o
active during work hours. This software has both a Windows and a Mac version
and since you are looking for a seamless software you will need to have acces
to the staff's computers, and then you can install the 'stealth version' of th
software which sends you the same information as the regular version, but th
employees won't know they are being monitored. The best part (for most of us
i
that it is totally FREE, but I like it also because the software is a reliabl
and easy-to-use.

We've used 'GFI WebMonitor' in the past.. it's pretty nifty. There's a free trial available for evaluation.. give it a spin. Google has the links! :o)
